2008 High School Women's All State Choir Procedures
Women’s Choir Procedures

Any female singer who lives in Louisiana and is enrolled in a choral program in the 10th -12th grade is eligible to audition. Each singer’s audition must be prepared and submitted by a sponsoring director who is a current member of ACDA. The ACDA All State Convention will be held Oct. 16-18, 2008.
FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
All singers accepted for the 2008 Women’s All-State Choir will be financially responsible for the following:
$65 registration fee upon acceptance (non-refundable: covers music, clinician, insurance, practice tape, and badges)
Transportation to and from Baton Rouge
Hotel costs & meals
T-shirt & tape or CD recording of concert (optional)
PREPARING THE AUDITION
1. Preparing to Record the Audition Cassette or CD:
Each singer must be on a separate tape or CD.
Use only new, quality cassettes or CDs and recording equipment. Listen to the cassette or CD to make sure it is complete and audible. Rewind the tape before mailing.
Absolutely NO editing.
2. Labeling the Audition Cassette or CD:
Please do not send the cassette box with the tape.
Each cassette tape or CD must be clearly labeled with the singer’s name, grade level, and voice part. Tapes or CDs will not be returned.
3. Recording the Audition Cassette or CD:
The recorded audition has 3 parts that must appear in the order listed:
- Spoken Introduction: At the beginning of the tape or CD, in a clear voice, the singer must speak her name, grade level, and voice part.
- Scales: The student must sing 2 diatonic scales (each spanning the range of an octave), using the starting pitches indicated for their voice part below. Scales must be sung a cappella, using “ah”.
TEMPO: mm=66 to 80 (one pitch = one beat).
- First Scale - ascend, breath, descend
- Second Scale - ascend, breath, descend

Required Audition Piece: Students must sing the following piece with piano accompaniment ONLY using the tempo indicated in the music. The student’s voice part MAY NOT be played. Teachers MAY NOT sing with the students. Each audition piece must be performed unedited.

Note: The audition piece is available from AMC Music Company (1-800-833-8432) in Houston, Texas. Please ask for the *Louisiana Women’s All-State Choir 2008 audition piece.
4. Application Form:
Fill out a separate audition form for EACH singer. PLEASE TYPE OR PRINT the information on the audition form and check to make sure all information requested is complete.
Include a $7 per student entry fee. Please make checks payable to LA ACDA, one check per school or organization.
Wrap the application form around the associated cassette/CD and secure it with a rubber band. Do not use scotch tape!

Postmark for audition tape -- AUGUST 29, 2008
Tape/CD received by Snow - September 5, 2008
Audition tapes/CDs judged --September 6, 2008
Teachers notified about results September 7, 2008
Music mailed to participants - September 8, 2008
Hotel Reservations by Participants - ROOM BLOCK discount ends Sept. 19th
Registration materials( forms and fees) returned by TEACHER ONLY in one packet- postmarked by Sept. 15 and received by September 19th to chairperson.
NOTE: ENTRIES THAT DO NOT COMPLY WITH THESE RULES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

AUDITION MATERIALS MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN AUGUST 29 ,2008 AND RECEIVED NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 5, 2008 . ALL DEADLINES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. ACDA cards must be currrent, not expired.
