The 2008 Women’s All State Choir will rehearse and perform in conjunction with the LA-ACDA Fall Vocal Conference in Baton Rouge, LA October 16-18, 2008.. Sophomore, junior, and senior girls will be chosen to participate in a demanding rehearsal schedule throughout the conference and final concert on Saturday, October 18th. Our clinician for this choir is Dr. Bradley Ellingboe of the University of New Mexico.

Dates:
The Women’s All State Choir will rehearse and perform in Baton Rouge on October 16, 17 and 18. Choir members must register at 5:00 P.M. and participate in the first rehearsal with the clinician on Thursday, October 16. The first regular rehearsal on Friday, October 17th begins at 8:00 A.M. Rehearsals continue throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, and the concert will be presented in the afternoon on October 18th at the conference site, the Holiday Inn Select Hotel in Baton Rouge.

Audition Procedure:
The audition procedure requires the submission of an audiocassette and a written application. Only teachers who are active ACDA members may enter students. If you would like to enter a student, but are not a member of ACDA, you may join by completing the application in this newsletter. Do not send your membership application with your tapes/cds. Send membership forms to the ACDA National Headquarters. Specific information regarding the audition procedure follows. The deadline for submitting tapes/cds and applications is Friday, August 29, 2008. To avoid any possibility of disqualification, please double check that all forms match the correct tapes/cds.

Please know that you, as teachers, are a vital first step in the audition process. As such, use discretion in submitting only audition tapes/cds worthy of the highest caliber All State Honor Choir. Do not submit tapes/cds from students whom you know to have conflicts with the rehearsals and performances, cannot handle the musical demands of all state repertoire, or do not desire to accept the financial conditions of participation in this choir.

Selection:
A panel of ACDA teachers will listen to the tapes/cds on Saturday, September 6, 2008. The best singers will be selected to sing in the Women’s All State Choir. Students will be notified ( via email) of their selection and sent the music for the concert. Students and teachers must thoroughly prepare all music for the concert before they arrive in Baton Rouge.

IMPORTANT NOTE: TEACHERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF RESULTS BY EMAIL OR FAX. PLEASE PROVIDE A WORKING EMAIL ADDRESS. IF ONE IS NOT AVAILABLE, A FAX NUMBER IS REQUIRED.

PLEASE ALLOW 7-10 DAYS FROM THE JUDGING DATE TO RECEIVE YOUR PACKETS. THEY WILL BE MAILED VIA U.S. PRIORITY MAIL AND WILL INCLUDE MUSIC PACKETS FOR ALL SELECTED STUDENTS AND ONE EXTRA FOR TEACHERS.

Cost:
THERE IS A $7.00 FEE PER STUDENT TO AUDITION. This fee covers the cost of initial mailings and the audition process. If selected, each student must provide her own chaperone, who will be responsible for the student outside of rehearsals at all times. One chaperone may assume responsibility for up to 3 students; all must stay in the same hotel room. The participation fee for each student chosen is $65. This figure covers tuition, music, and insurance. The participants and chaperones must pay for hotel costs and meals individually.

Please note that the deadline for reserving rooms at the Holiday Inn Select is September 19th. Because the hotel deadline for reservations falls so quickly after the notification deadline, it is imperative that all information is accurate and legible. It is equally important that parents make hotel reservations immediately upon notification of acceptance. All reservations are required to be under the LA-American Choral Directors Association room block. Please state CODE S 53 when reserving your room. Phone number is 1-225-925-2244, ask for reservations and state our booking code ( S53).
